The Beauty of Couponing and The Great Savings It Represents
Friday, January 22, 2010

If you aren’t already a fan of couponing, then you should quickly look to this way of saving money. So many families are looking for the best and most effective ways to save money, and this is an excellent way to do so. Everybody needs groceries and simple household items to function, but it’s not necessary to always pay top price for them. It’s important to realize that every penny saved is money put back into your own pocket. So while it may seem that couponing is a whole lot of work to save only a small amount at a time, it really does add up over time. Here is what the art of couponing can mean to your budget and your household.

Designate a Little Time Each Week

The reason that clipping coupons becomes such a mammoth task for some people is that they don’t know where to start or how to proceed. They can get buried under mounds of paper and feel frustrated as they work their way through the piles to get to the coupons that they really want. The most important aspect of couponing is twofold: to find the sources for the best coupons that your family uses, and to keep up with it on a regular basis. Those that are well versed in the art of clipping coupons narrow in on a few key resources whether it be online or through the Sunday paper, and they stick with them. It can also be quite helpful to keep up with your coupon clipping on a regular basis, say once a week. This ensures that you don’t end up with a pile of papers that seem to be closing in on you.

Combine with Other Offers Whenever Possible

Though couponing can stand alone and save you a ton of money, it can also work really well if you combine it with other offers. Consider using your coupons when the grocery store is offering an added incentive on manufacturer coupons such as double the value. Combine the coupons that you have with weekly specials in the store for additional savings. Scan your weekly circular before you head out to do the grocery shopping, and then apply your coupons to those items that you use which are featured on special that week. Though this isn’t mandatory, it’s a smart way of couponing and really making the savings work for you to the max.

Add Up the Savings Over Time

If you start clipping coupons for your favorite restaurants, stores, and of course groceries and household items over time, the savings can be tremendous. If you don’t believe that a dollar here and there can really add up, keep track of it for a month. You will quickly see that the effort and time put into couponing can add up to instant money in your pocket. Start small and use the couponing process for your groceries, then move up to restaurants and stores that you shop at. You will get so well versed at the process that you won’t settle for paying full price on items anymore. This can and will work for you, but you just have to give it some time and effort—before you know it you’ll be a couponing expert!
